2008 Chrysler 300 2.7L Engine Missing with P0038 OBD2 Fault Code at 153,000 Miles

Model: 2008 Chrysler 300 Fault Code: P0038 Posted: 2015-01-21 19:46

I own a 2008 Chrysler 3-00 2.7L engine vehicle that is experiencing a noticeable misfire and has triggered the P0038 diagnostic trouble code. The car currently has 153,000 miles on it. I previously replaced the spark plugs because the OBD2 scanner showed a P0301 code, but after replacement, the issue persists. The vehicle is now showing only the P0038 code, which I believe may be related to the oxygen sensor heater circuit or an upstream sensor malfunction. However, given that this is a drivability-related problem, I'm concerned that other codes might also be present. Could anyone confirm if P0038 alone is sufficient to explain engine misfires? Additionally, could you describe what the old spark plugs looked like—were there any signs of wear or damage? I've ensured I used OEM-quality spark plugs and not low-cost alternatives. A proper OBD2 scanner would be ideal for checking real-time data such as oxygen sensor readings. For more details on P0038, please refer to: https://www.obd-codes.com/p0038

Are you certain that the only OBD2 code displayed is P0038? A single P0038 code alone is unlikely to cause a noticeable engine misfire—other related codes such as P0301 or P0302 are typically present in drivability issues. Could you describe the appearance of your old spark plugs? Were there any signs of fouling, wear, or damage? Please confirm that you used high-quality, OEM-approved spark plugs—never low-cost alternatives. For a more accurate diagnosis, using an OBD2 scanner to monitor live data (such as oxygen sensor readings) would be highly recommended.
