2008 Audi A6 3.2 Quattro P0024 and P0391 Fault Codes: Causes and Solutions

Model: 2008 Audi A6 3.2 Quattro Fault Code: P0024 Posted: 2017-11-02 14:29

I'm attempting to pass my vehicle's emissions test, but I'm currently encountering two diagnostic trouble codes: P0024 and P0391. I've already replaced the CAM position sensor twice without resolving the issue. What other potential causes could be responsible for these codes? Specifically, is it possible that the Variable Valve Timing (VCT) system in Bank 2 is at fault? I'm aware of the intake and exhaust components but am unsure which one to prioritize or what parts to replace.

Could you please specify the exact year and model of your vehicle? This helps narrow down potential causes related to specific engine configurations.

I have a 2008 Audi A6 3.2 Quattro. I suspect the VCT system in Bank 2 might be the root cause of both P0024 and P039-1, but I'm uncertain about which intake or exhaust component is affected. Guidance on identifying the correct part or diagnostic procedure would be greatly appreciated.

Re: P0024 & P0391 Consider performing a complete engine flush to remove sludge and carbon deposits, which can interfere with sensor readings and valve operation. After the flush, use the manufacturer-recommended engine oil and filter. Complete the oil change according to instructions, then drive the vehicle for approximately 20–30 km before clearing the codes. A key tip: Turbocharged vehicles typically require fully synthetic oil for optimal protection. If budget allows, opt for full synthetic; otherwise, a multigrade or partially synthetic oil will suffice. However, I recommend changing the oil every 10,000 km rather than every 15,000 km when using fully synthetic oil. For vehicles with over 100,000 km mileage, use Mobil 1 5W30 or 5W40. Please update me on your repair outcome—whether the codes cleared and if emissions passed. Thanks and best of luck!
