2007 Toyota Camry P0051 Code: Oxygen Sensor 1 Bank 2 Malfunction - Causes, Fixes & Replacement Advice

Model: 2007 Toyota Camry Fault Code: P0051 Posted: 2019-09-06 21:57

Hi everyone, I recently purchased a 2007 Toyota Camry about 1.5 years ago and have been experiencing recurring issues with the P0051 diagnostic trouble code (DTC), which indicates a malfunction in the Bank 2 Oxygen Sensor 1. This issue first appeared last year, and although I initially cleared the code multiple times, it would reappear after some time. To address this, I replaced the oxygen sensor with a new Bosch 15093 model — specifically for the Bank 2 Sensor 1 of a 2007 Toyota Camry. The replacement worked well for approximately 8 to 10 months. However, over the past few months, the P0051 code has returned and now appears frequently even after clearing it. My question is: Should I replace the oxygen sensor again? Is the Bosch O2 sensor lifespan really only one year? Or could there be another underlying issue causing this rapid failure? I’ve done extensive research before purchasing the replacement part, so I’m confident I installed the correct sensor. Still, I’d appreciate any insights or troubleshooting steps from experienced users. Thank you in advance for your help! Best regards, Piyush Gupta

You may want to measure the heater resistance of your Bosch oxygen sensor. A value outside the specified range could indicate a faulty heater circuit, which is common in Toyota Camry models and might be causing the P0051 code to persist even after replacement.

Thanks for the tip! I’ll check the heater resistance this week. I’m confident I installed the correct Bosch sensor — I verified the part number (15093) and matched it specifically with the Bank 2 Sensor 1 location on my 2007 Toyota Camry before ordering.

If a sensor replacement is needed, consider checking Denso sensors from RockAuto — they’re often reliable alternatives. A P0051 code can stem from several issues including: - Short in the heater circuit - Failed oxygen sensor heater element - Damaged wiring or connectors between sensor and relay - Faulty Powertrain Control Module (PCM) or ECM For more details, see: https://www.p0051.com
