2007 PT Cruiser with P0456 and P0700 OBD2 Codes: Is It Safe to Drive?

Model: 2007 PT Cruiser Fault Code: P0456 Posted: 2018-11-20 18:58

My Check Engine light turned on today. I visited AutoZone and was told there are three codes present: two instances of P0456 and one instance of P0700. The technician mentioned that P0456 is generally safe to drive with, but P0700 indicates a potential transmission issue and should be addressed. Since both codes appear simultaneously, I'm concerned—can I safely continue driving my 2007 PT Cruiser? What steps can I take to determine if the vehicle is still safe to operate?

P0456 indicates an EVAP (Evaporative Emission) system leak. More details available at https://www.obd-codes.com/p0456. P0700 is a transmission-related diagnostic code that signals the presence of transmission faults—however, no specific transmission codes were reported. This raises concerns: either the scanner failed to detect all codes or there's an issue with the transmission relay. How does your 2007 PT Cruiser’s transmission perform under normal conditions? I recommend trying a different OBD2 scanner at another auto parts store—some scanners are more reliable than others, and a free scan might yield better results.

I recently visited an Express Auto Shop, and they explained that the issue was triggered by installing a new battery. The system flagged it as a battery disconnect error. After reconnecting the battery and resetting the system, both codes disappeared. My vehicle is now functioning normally—this suggests that the P0456 and P0700 may have been temporary issues related to power interruption.
