P0487 Fault: EGR Throttle Position Control Circuit Issue in 2007 Mitsubishi Outlander 2.0 DiD
Hi everyone, I'm new to this forum and to the Mitsubishi vehicle community. I've been experiencing a persistent P0487 diagnostic trouble code on my 2007 Mitsubishi Outlander 2.0 DiD. The engine runs smoothly under normal conditions, but it splutters noticeably at low RPMs—specifically when in second gear while moving slowly through traffic at around 1500 to 2000 RPM. I recently came across a thread suggesting that the Throttle Control Valve (TCV) might be the issue. I've tested the TCV wiring with the ignition on and observed four voltage readings: 12V, 3.15V, another 12V, and a solid ground. Does this reading seem normal or could it indicate a fault? Any insights, troubleshooting tips, or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance for your help! PS: I’ve already acquired EGR cleaner but haven’t cleaned the EGR valve yet—planning to do so this weekend and will update with results if possible.
The P0487 code typically indicates an issue with the EGR throttle position control circuit. While I don't have a detailed wiring diagram for this specific setup, it's worth checking whether the EGR valve has been cleaned or serviced—clogged valves can cause misfires and rough idle at low RPMs. A clean EGR system may resolve the symptom and clear the code.
