2007 Mercedes C280 Won't Start with P0013 Code - Camshaft Solenoid Replacement Not Resolving Issue

Model: 2007 Mercedes C280 Fault Code: P0013 Posted: 2017-04-07 10:43

I own a 2007 Mercedes C280. Last week, while driving, the vehicle suddenly stalled and will not restart. It cranks over but does not start. This model has been known to suffer from camshaft position solenoid issues, and my engine serial number matches the service bulletin recommending replacement of all camshaft adjustment solenoids. I have already replaced all four camshaft position sensors and all camshaft adjustment solenoids, yet the car still only cranks and will not start. After checking the engine diagnostics, I am now seeing fault code P0013. Could this specific code prevent the engine from starting? Is it possible that a short or circuit failure related to the P0013 system is causing the issue?

Yes, Mercedes vehicles often refuse to start when the ECM detects potential damage and activates protection mode to prevent further harm. This may explain why your engine won't start despite cranking.

I recently had my 2006 CLK350 with 68,000 miles smogged and it failed due to a P0013 code related to camshaft position. The check engine light didn't come on, but the technician detected the issue using diagnostic equipment. I'm sorry—my vehicle actually had P0012, not P0013, which might have been a mix-up in reporting.

After troubleshooting, I found that one of the four front engine camshaft position sensors was faulty. The sensors are labeled as Bank 1-3 (A and B), and Banks 4-6 (A and B). I had all four replaced in pairs, as recommended by the technician—this is a common best practice. My vehicle is now 12 years old with only 68,000 miles. Additionally, the hood struts were worn and required replacement to keep the hood securely closed.
