2007 Mazda5 P0500 Fault: Power Steering Light On, Speedometer Malfunction After Wheel Bearing Replacement

Model: 2007 MAZDA5 Fault Code: P0500 Posted: 2017-01-06 17:58

I own a 2007 Mazda5 with a 2.3L engine. My front ABS sensors were previously functioning correctly, but after replacing the wheel bearing, I noticed the power steering light illuminated during a test drive and the speedometer began to display incorrect readings. A diagnostic scan revealed fault code P0500. I contacted Mazda and ordered the Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) part number 21-551 for replacement. However, after installation, the P0500 code persists, and both the power steering light and speedometer issue remain unresolved. What should be the next troubleshooting step? Any known solutions or common causes for this specific fault in a 2007 Mazda5?

Next step: Verify the circuit wiring. Refer to BBBind.com for available schematics, checking both voltage supply and ground connections as well as signal transmission from the sensor to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM).

Has this issue been resolved? I'm experiencing the same P0500 problem on my 2010 Mazda5. Any advice or fixes that worked for you?
