2007 Kia Sorento P0300 Random Misfire Code That Resets After Shutdown?

Model: 2007 Kia Sorento Fault Code: P0300 Posted: 2015-07-30 15:12

Hi everyone, I'm looking for help with my girlfriend's 2007 Kia Sorento LX with a 3.0L V6 engine. The SUV has started running roughly, and when this happens, it triggers a P0300 random misfire code. The strange part is that if I simply shut the vehicle off and restart it, the misfiring stops immediately, and the truck runs smoothly for several days before the issue returns. I'm puzzled because if there was a faulty spark plug, ignition wire, fuel injector, or coil pack, shutting down and restarting should not resolve the problem — the underlying fault would still be present. This behavior makes me wonder if it's related to a condition that only occurs under specific circumstances (like engine temperature or system testing). Any insights into what could cause this intermittent issue? I'd really appreciate any advice on how to diagnose this properly. Thanks, Jeff

I would check the freeze frame data. A reasonable guess — possibly, when the engine is warm, it triggers a diagnostic test (such as an EVAP or EGR test), and under specific temperature or timing conditions, the misfire occurs. A good OBD2 scanner would be essential to capture this behavior and identify the root cause.
