2007 GMC Acadia P0499 Fault: How to Locate Vent Valve Solenoid and Fix Remote Start Issue

Model: 2007 GMC Acadia Fault Code: P0499 Posted: 2018-10-12 08:19

I'm experiencing a P0499 diagnostic code on my 2007 GMC Acadia. The check engine light is on, which has disabled my remote start functionality—something I rely on during winter months. I'm looking for guidance on locating the vent valve solenoid, as some vehicles require dropping the spare tire to access it. I've heard that the solenoid might be located beneath the trunk floor or inside the fuel tank area. Could someone confirm the exact location and provide troubleshooting steps? Additionally, I want to understand whether clearing the code temporarily allows remote start to function again—only for a short period before the light returns. Potential causes of P0499 include: - Faulty vent valve solenoid - Wiring or circuit issues - PCM/ECM fault I've also checked the 10-amp fuse under the instrument panel (IP) labeled 'canister vent'—it appears intact. However, I'm still unable to use remote start without clearing the code with a scanner, and it reactivates within seconds after. Any advice on diagnosing or repairing this issue would be greatly appreciated.

P0449 should be the code for vent solenoid. 3.6 l engine. On this vehicle you have to drop the gas tank. Flat rate is 1.8 hours labor. Could be wiring to solenoid power and pcm control circuit. Crazy where they put it.

Wanted to add that there is a 10 amp fuse under ip marked canister vent..... Check if blown. Are you experiencing any other problems? Dash.... Starting start stall?

What does the remote start have to do with the mil?

No other problems besides the Mil light being on. I was told when your Mil light is on your remote start is automatically disabled until the problem is fixed.

Have you tried your remote start?

Yes. Doesn't work. Only works if I clear the code first with my scanner but within a few seconds the mil light comes back on.

Going to fix the vent code then. Circuit checks would have to be done.
