2007 GMC Acadia OBD2 Codes P0442 and P0496: Fuel Vapor Leak or Purge Valve Solenoid Issue?

Model: 2007 GMC Acadia Fault Code: P0442 Posted: 2014-05-29 09:12

I've spent a significant amount of money repairing my 2007 GMC Acadia, including approximately $700 to fix a leaking transmission hose. Now, the check engine light is on and I'm receiving OBD2 diagnostic codes P0442 and P0496, which indicate potential fuel vapor leaks or issues with the purge valve solenoid. My emissions test is due in one week, and this unexpected problem is causing serious concern. Can anyone provide guidance on how to diagnose and resolve these codes accurately?

Inspect the purge valve and check all vacuum lines connected to it for leaks. Ensure no engine vacuum is present on the side with the green cap, as this can indicate a system failure.

The issue could be either a faulty fuel tank pressure sensor or a defective purge solenoid. I recommend starting with the purge solenoid—it's relatively easy to replace and costs around $30, making it a cost-effective fix.

Thank you all for the helpful advice—I'll try replacing the purge solenoid first and monitor the results.
