P0713 Transmission Sensor Fault in 2007 Ford F-350: Severity and Safety Concerns for Heavy Hauling (18,000kg)

Model: 2007 Ford F350 Fault Code: P0713 Posted: 2018-02-19 18:35

Hello everyone, I own a 2007 Ford F-350 and am currently performing heavy-duty hauling operations, including loads up to approximately 18,000kg. The truck is rated for a maximum of 26,000kg, so this is within its capacity. I've recently encountered a pending fault code P0713 related to the transmission sensor. I’ve observed three out of four typical symptoms: improper clutch engagement, rough or aggressive shifting, and an illuminated check engine light. My employer has instructed me to continue hauling for a 1.5-hour drive out and another 1.5-hour return trip before scheduling downtime for a repair. I'm concerned about the severity of this issue—specifically, what happens if I keep clearing the P0710 code without addressing the underlying sensor or wiring problem, especially during prolonged heavy hauling. Additional observations: - The fault appears to trigger only after the engine reaches normal operating temperature following a few minutes of driving (without load). - The fault clears when the truck idles for more than 5–10 minutes after the pending fault activates. After this, the transmission temperature display functions normally and allows me to resume driving—however, it reverts back to the original issue once the vehicle is driven again. I’m seeking clarity on whether continuing to clear the code without repair poses a safety or mechanical risk, especially under heavy load conditions.
