2007 Dodge Ram 1500 5.7L Engine P0153 Fault: Right Bank Fuel Trim Issue After Adaptive Reset
I'm experiencing a persistent P0153 fault on my 2007 Dodge Ram 1500 with the 5.7L engine. After performing an adaptive reset, the right bank begins to add fuel over time—something that doesn't occur in the left bank. The right-side upstream oxygen sensor appears to function normally during testing, but when compared to the left side on a scope, it shows reduced switching behavior and drifts toward the upper half of the .100–.900 range. This suggests an abnormal fuel trim response. Notably, the fuel trim correction for the right bank is adding extra fuel, which contradicts expected behavior. I've ruled out exhaust leaks, vacuum leaks, and other common causes. The issue appears isolated to the right bank, yet no clear cause has been identified.
Did you install a non-OEM oxygen sensor? Try swapping the upstream O2 sensors between left and right banks—this will help determine if the issue is with the sensor itself or the wiring. Note: Dodge recommends using their specified sensor (e.g., OEM) and performing a 'dump' of the fuel system (using vitrification #5) by disconnecting the negative battery cable for 10 minutes when replacing sensors.
