How to Reset P0877 Error Code on 2007 Chevy Silverado | No Start in Low Gear

Model: 2007 Chevy Silverado Fault Code: P0877 Posted: 2018-08-24 20:38

I'm unable to clear the P0877 diagnostic trouble code on my 2007 Chevrolet Silverado using a Walmart-branded OBD2 scanner. The vehicle displays 'Low 1' on the shifter, but it's not actually in low gear and will not start—appearing to think it's still engaged. The transmission shift cable moves smoothly, and the shifter operates freely, yet the indicator remains stuck on Low 1. I'm wondering if I need a Tech 2 scanner to reset this code or if there's another method to clear P0877. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated. Note: The vehicle is not starting due to what appears to be a persistent gear detection issue, possibly related to the transmission range sensor (TFPS).

Try disconnecting the battery for 10-15 minutes to clear the P0877 error code. This is a common troubleshooting step. Typical causes of P0877 include: - Short to ground in the signal circuit to the Transmission Range Position Sensor (TFPS) - Failed or internally shorted TFPS sensor - Faulty Powertrain Control Module (PCM) — though this is rare and would require reprogramming after replacement For more details, refer to official P0877 troubleshooting resources.
