2007 Cadillac DTS P0480 Code: Fan Relay 1 Issue and Solutions

Model: 2007 cadillac dts Fault Code: P0480 Posted: 2020-03-02 11:16

Good morning! I'm John and I'm posting about my 2007 Cadillac DTS experiencing a check engine light. The diagnostic code displayed is P0480, which indicates a fault with the fan relay 1. I took the vehicle to an AutoZone store for a free diagnostic test, where this code was identified. Based on their system, I replaced the fan control relay with part number 3914. After removing the old relay and installing the new one, the technician advised that I drive at least 50 miles to allow the car's computer to adapt to the new component. I drove approximately 2 miles, after which the check engine light turned off. However, as soon as I continued driving, the light returned and has stayed on ever since. The cooling fan appears to be running, but the temperature gauge remains stuck in the middle position — a condition that has been present since I purchased the vehicle. I'm now unsure of what might be causing this issue. Could someone provide insight or guidance? Thank you for your help.

There are several potential causes for P0480 in a 2007 Cadillac DTS. Common suspects include: - Faulty fan control relay 1 - Open or shorted fan control relay harness - Poor electrical connections in the fan circuit - Faulty cooling fan 1 - Malfunctioning coolant temperature sensor - Open or shorted fan harness - Poor electrical connection in the cooling fan circuit - Intake air temperature (IAT) sensor failure - A/C selector switch issue - A/C refrigerant pressure sensor fault - Vehicle speed sensor (VSS) malfunction For more detailed information, see: P0480 diagnostic guide

I've seen similar cases with the 2007 Cadillac DTS showing P0480 — after replacing the coolant temperature sensor and driving about 20 miles, the code returns. Does anyone have experience with this recurring issue? Any suggestions on next steps?

The engine runs smoothly and doesn't overheat; it appears to be functioning normally under normal conditions.
