2006 Nissan Frontier 4.0L P0340 and P0021 Codes: Engine Power Loss and RPM Fluctuations

Model: 2006 Nissan Frontier Fault Code: P0021 Posted: 2017-01-17 01:07

I own a 2006 Nissan Frontier with a 4.0L engine that is currently displaying both P0340 and P0021 diagnostic trouble codes. The vehicle experiences significant power loss during acceleration, and the RPMs occasionally jump unpredictably when speeding up. I have already replaced both camshaft position sensors (CPS) and the variable valve timing (VCT) solenoid for bank 2. However, I suspect that the replacement CPS units may not be OEM parts—could this be contributing to the issue? I'm seeking all possible causes and troubleshooting steps to resolve these problems. Any insights or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Do you have access to a diagnostic scanner that can display live data? Step-by-step troubleshooting: - Perform a KOEO (Key Off, Engine Off) test and check if the VCT solenoid is properly connected. - Verify if there is 12V on the red wire of the solenoid. - Confirm whether the other wire (LT/G) is grounded or showing voltage. - Test the solenoid resistance with a multimeter: with the key off, the reading should be between 7.0 and 7.7 ohms at 20°C (68°F).
