2006 Mercedes ML500 P0730 Fault - ABS/ESP Lights On After Front Wheel Bearing Replacement

Model: 2006 Mercedes ML500 Fault Code: P0730 Posted: 2012-05-05 19:08

My 2006 Mercedes ML500 has recently displayed fault code P0730 following a front wheel bearing replacement. The vehicle's ABS and ESP warning lights are now illuminated. I've checked the diagnostic readings, and while the issue arose after the bearing work, it is unclear whether this is directly related to the repair or another underlying system problem.

Could the Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) or its associated circuit be faulty? This is a common cause of P0730 in Mercedes ML500 models.

I replaced both the driver-side wheel speed sensor and brake sensor during maintenance. The P0730 code persists. After researching Mercedes service documentation, I believe the issue might be low transmission fluid or a required transmission flush. I'm hoping it's one of these two solutions.

I identified the root cause: during installation, someone damaged the internal sensor components, causing inaccurate readings. Additionally, the black strip on the bearing was installed incorrectly. After correcting both issues today, the ABS/ESP lights have turned off.
