2006 Lexus LX470 P0430 Code: Was It Cleared Before Purchase? How to Check Past Trigger History

Model: 2006 Lexus LX470 Fault Code: P0430 Posted: 2013-01-10 01:45

Hello everyone. On Sunday night, my wife purchased a used 2006 Lexus LX47-0 from an authorized Lexus dealer in Southern California. The next day, the check engine light came on. She returned to the dealer, who diagnosed a catalytic converter issue and recommended replacement. After clearing the P0430 code, she drove home — but the check engine light reappeared within less than 24 hours. I suspect that the dealer cleared the P0430 code before selling the vehicle. Is it possible for an OBD-II scanner to detect whether this fault code has been triggered in the past? If yes, which OBD-II scanner would be best suited to retrieve historical diagnostic data? Any insights or recommendations on how to verify if the issue was pre-existing or artificially cleared would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for your help.

Caveat emptor — this vehicle is quite old.\nCheck if there was any post-purchase inspection conducted at delivery. Emissions testing is required in California, and certain emission components are covered under warranty for up to 6–8 years. The owner's manual contains detailed information on these provisions.\nIt’s unusual for an authorized Lexus dealer to clear a P0430 code intentionally — this raises concerns about transparency. Consider reviewing California emissions regulations and warranty coverage before making further decisions.
