Start by verifying that the engine coolant level is adequate and that the cooling fans are functioning correctly. The intermittent P0119 code may indicate a faulty ECT (Engine Coolant Temperature) sensor or loose wiring. Inspect the wiring harness and sensor connections for damage, ensuring proper voltage and resistance readings as per manufacturer specifications. If you have an OBD2 scanner, compare the ECT sensor reading with the IAT (Intake Air Temperature) sensor—these should differ by only a few degrees. Monitor the ECT value as the engine warms up to observe when the thermostat opens and at what temperature the cooling fan activates or deactivates.
