P0157 and P0430 Fault Codes on 2006 Dodge Ram 5.7L - ABS and Emergency Brake Light Issues

Model: 2006 Dodge Ram 5.7L Fault Code: P0157 Posted: 2016-05-24 09:59

Hello, I'm experiencing recurring issues with my 2006 Dodge Ram 5.7L. Despite replacing all oxygen sensors and confirming the catalytic converter is functioning properly, the ABS and emergency brake lights come on intermittently. The onboard diagnostic system shows P0157 (O2 Sensor 2 Bank 2 - Short to Ground) followed by P0430 (Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold - Bank 2) after approximately 10 miles of driving. I've noticed that when I reset the codes, both the brake and ABS lights activate shortly afterward, then trigger the P0430 code. This suggests a potential voltage or grounding issue in the sensor wiring or related circuits. I'm unable to pinpoint the exact source despite checking the wiring harnesses. The vehicle is currently failing the DE state inspection due to these persistent codes. Any insights into possible causes or diagnostic steps would be greatly appreciated.

Is this a stock 2006 Dodge Ram 5.7L? Please confirm the vehicle is not modified. Are you using a diagnostic scanner capable of reading all OBD-II codes, including ABS-specific ones? Many basic code readers only display generic codes and miss specific fault codes like P0157 or P0430. P0157 indicates that O2 Sensor 2 Bank 2 is shorted to ground. This requires a thorough inspection of the wiring harness at the sensor location, particularly focusing on potential shared grounding points between the oxygen sensor circuit and brake system. Reviewing the vehicle's wiring diagram for common ground connections may help identify where a short could occur.

Thanks for the helpful input! I've now identified the root cause: a faulty ground connection between the O2 sensor and the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). After cleaning the harness connectors at the PCM, I repaired the damaged wire. I also applied electrical grease to all connections involving the PCM and oxygen sensors. The issue is fully resolved—no diagnostic codes are present, and the vehicle passed the DE state inspection today.
