I own a 2006 Chrysler Pacifica with a persistent transmission issue indicated by fault code P0700. The vehicle will not move when shifted into drive or reverse, but it functions normally when placed in manual mode. I have not used an OBD2 scanner to retrieve additional codes, and no other mechanical issues have been reported. The problem appeared suddenly while driving on the highway at 65 mph—after feeling a clunk, I stopped and found the car unresponsive in drive or reverse. I'm seeking advice on what could be causing this issue, especially given that P0700 typically points to transmission-related problems.

The vehicle has a 3.5L engine. I haven't inspected any fuses or used an OBD2 scanner—my only experience with the issue was turning the key three times, which triggered the P0700 code to appear on the dashboard.

P0700 indicates a transmission control system fault and may point to underlying issues within the transmission itself or its communication systems. The 'key trick' (turning the key three times) often only reveals the primary code, not all related codes. I recommend checking the transmission relay and fuse #36 in the integrated power module. No other issues have occurred. The problem started suddenly during highway driving at 65 mph when I felt a clunk. After stopping, the car wouldn't move in drive or reverse. I will now test both the transmission relay and fuse #36. If that doesn’t resolve it, I plan to purchase an OBD2 scanner to retrieve any additional fault codes for further diagnosis.
