P0172 on 2006 BMW

Model: 2006 BMW Fault Code: P0172 Posted: 2007-07-31 12:23

2006 BMW 330i My "service engine soon" light came on yesterday. The code read was P1072 - System Too Rich. After looking through this site and the forums, I see there are a few different things that could be the cause. I am unable to bring the car to the dealership for another month due to my schedule. My question is, could this progress if I don't get it checked out immediately? Could it cause any damage to the car? I haven't noticed any changes in the car while driving since the light came on, but I'm sure that might not mean much. I bought the car used. The original owner modified the car so that the exhausts come out under the rear passenger doors rather than the rear. This may cause the repair not to be covered under the warranty. Knowing this BMW dealer, this most certainly will be the case. If it is not covered, should I consider taking the car elsewhere in order to avoid the dealer's tremendous prices? Any suggestions? Thanks so much in advance.

You're not going to want to drive it with that code. The reason is the system is overly rich and that can damage your catalytic converter over a month's period. Sorry, but you should get it in soon and settle for a loaner while it's getting looked at. If you don't want to take it to the dealer, you'll need to bring it to a good Euro shop.

Should it not be under warranty still? It is an 06!
