2005 Nissan Frontier P0463 Fuel Level Sensor High Output Code Issue

Model: 2005 Nissan Frontier Fault Code: P0463 Posted: 2017-11-25 18:16

I recently replaced the fuel level sensor on my 1995 Nissan Frontier, but the vehicle is still displaying a P0463 fault code indicating 'Fuel Level Sensor High Output'. The gauge appears to function correctly now, but the diagnostic trouble code persists. I'm concerned whether this could be due to wiring issues or a faulty sensor signal rather than simply replacing the part.

This issue is also reported on my 2005 Nissan Frontier — same P0463 code after fuel level sensor replacement.

What was the exact diagnostic code? A code alone doesn't confirm a part failure. It's possible this is a wiring or signal issue. Could you share the voltage reading from the fuel level sensor output?

I haven't tested it yet — I cleared the code after installing the new sensor, assuming that would resolve the problem. However, the P0463 code has returned.

The fuel gauge now works properly, but the vehicle still shows a P0463 high output code.

The diagnostic code is confirmed as P0463.

I've had the instrument cluster checked, and I know older Nissan Frontiers were prone to cluster issues — such as inaccurate gas gauge readings, incorrect temperature displays, or speedometer failing to pass 20 mph with odometer reading 9999999. If you're near a junkyard, getting a used cluster tested there might be the most cost-effective solution.
