2005 Kia Sedona P0455 Evap System Leak: Diagnostics and Repair Solutions

Model: 2005 Kia Sedona Fault Code: P0455 Posted: 2016-04-18 15:58

I own a 2005 Kia Sedona LX and recently received an OBD II P0455 evaporative emission system leak code. I replaced the gas cap first, but the issue persisted. I took it to a repair shop where they performed a system test and confirmed that all hoses are intact. They suggested replacing either the purge valve or vent valve, and later recommended replacing the carbon canister as well. After replacing both the purge valve and vent valve, and even the fuel tank carbon canister, the P0455 code returned. I then replaced the fuel tank pressure sensor, but three days later the check engine light came back on. I've also inspected the fuel tank filler neck and found no visible damage. I'm now wondering what else could be causing this persistent P0455 issue. Is there a possibility of a hidden leak or faulty sensor? Any advice on further diagnostics or testing would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

P0455 indicates a significant evaporative system leak. In professional automotive diagnostics, a 'smoke machine' test is commonly used to pinpoint the exact location of the leak — it's a simple and effective procedure. I'm wondering why your original shop didn't perform this test. Replacing multiple components without identifying the actual source may lead to unnecessary expenses. Consider visiting another reputable shop for a smoke test to accurately locate the leak.

I was under the impression that the original shop used a 'smoke machine' to identify the leak, and they concluded that only the purge valve or vent valve needed replacement. However, since the P0455 code returned after replacing multiple parts, I'm now considering getting a second opinion at a different repair shop. Would you recommend a smoke test for this issue? Any experience with such diagnostics on 2005 Kia Sedona models?

I cannot provide specific advice as I have no knowledge of the exact diagnostic procedures performed by the original shop. However, if the system is still showing a P0455 code after multiple part replacements, it's likely that the root cause remains unidentified.

Good day, It's been some time — just wanted to check in and see if you've resolved your P0455 issue on your 2005 Kia Sedona. I recently had my 2003 Sedona trigger a P0455 code, and about a year ago it showed P0456. I replaced the purge valve and purge solenoid, which cleared the code. I'm currently looking for advice on how to diagnose this issue properly — if you've found a solution, any insights would be helpful! Thanks.
