2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee P0700 Fault Code: Is It a Faulty Transmission Control Module?

Model: 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee Fault Code: P0700 Posted: 2017-07-05 09:48

I recently discovered an OBD-II fault code P0700 on my 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee. No other diagnostic codes are present, and the vehicle has been thoroughly checked by a technician. The only code reported is P0700. This code indicates a transmission control module (TCM) issue, as it suggests the TCM has commanded the malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) to illuminate. Could this be due to a faulty TCM or another underlying problem? I'm seeking advice on possible causes and next steps for diagnosis.

Unlikely. Did you use an OBD-II scanner or try the key-on-off reset method? If you performed a key-on-off cycle, that might have cleared the code temporarily. P0700 specifically points to a transmission control module (TCM) issue and indicates the TCM has triggered the MIL. Have there been any recent modifications, such as aftermarket parts, upgrades, or add-ons installed in the vehicle?
