2005 GMC Sierra 1500 5.3L P0650 Code: Red Battery Light and Park Indicator Issue After Instrument Cluster Replacement

Model: 2005 GMC Sierra 1500 Fault Code: P0650 Posted: 2017-05-27 22:15

I'm experiencing two unusual issues on my 2005 GMC Sierra 1500 5.3L Reg Cab 2WD after replacing the instrument cluster: 1. A persistent red battery light remains on even after removing and reinstalling the cluster. 2. When I shift the gear lever to 'P' (park), the 'P' indicator does not highlight, despite all other park functions working correctly — doors unlock, transmission shifts into park, etc. The OBD-II scanner is showing a P065

This post has more questions than answers. Let's clarify: - Is the vehicle stock as originally manufactured? - Why was the instrument cluster removed and replaced? Was it the same unit reinstalled? - When the key is turned to 'ON', does the Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) perform a self-test and stay lit? - Does your OBD-II scanner display all stored diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs)? What specific codes are present? - I strongly advise against swapping instrument clusters between vehicles — this can trigger DTCs. Did the odometer reading change? Was there any DTC generated by the 2003 Tahoe during testing? A full scan of the current truck is essential to diagnose the root cause.
