2005 Ford Five Hundred P0158

Model: 2005 Ford Five Hundred Fault Code: P0158 Posted: 2015-02-25 13:49

I have a 2005 Five Hundred. A few day ago the CEL came on. Drove home like normal shut it off and the immediately it restarted just fine. Came out a couple of hours later and it wouldn't start. Went and got a scanner and got code p0158 which was a bank 2 oxygen sensor among other things from what I have read. One cause was fuel pressure so I changed the fuel filter and still didn't start. I check the fuel pressure on the line under the car and it was 30psi after the pump primed and 45psi after I tried to start the car. Not sure if that is adequate pressure or not? Any help on when to go next? I don't want to just start replacing parts and guessing. Could a bad Oxygen sensor cause the car to not start?

A bad post cat o2 sensor shouldn't cause car to not start. If you don,t have any or error codes look to low fuel pressure as reason for no startn I believe pressure should be around 50 psi Try spraying started fluid into intake.

I was thinking fuel pump too. Just wanted to investigate a little more before I bought a pump. I will try to use some starting fluid and try to tape on the pump too. Thanks for the help.

Before buying pump you might want to also verify that pump is getting the correct voltage to it. Investigate possible wiring/voltage problems. I believe that you can also get some info on the fuel system from scan data.
