2005 Ford Explorer P0302 P0316 P0183 Fault Diagnosis - Engine Won't Rev Past 3000 RPM

Model: 2005 Ford Explorer Fault Code: P0302 Posted: 2018-07-15 08:40

My 2005 Ford Explorer with a 4.0L non-flex engine is displaying three diagnostic trouble codes: P0302, P0316, and P0183. The engine appears to be in a safe mode and will not rev past 3000 RPM when attempted. I've tried revving the engine to clear the codes, but it fails to exceed 3000 RPM. Any insights or troubleshooting steps for these specific codes on this model would be greatly appreciated.

Possible causes for P0183 include: Faulty Engine Fuel Temperature Sensor, open or shorted sensor harness, poor electrical connection in the fuel temperature sensor circuit. For P0316, potential root causes may be related to fuel delivery issues such as P0181. Possible causes of misfire (P0302) include: defective ignition coil(s), bad spark plugs or wiring, faulty fuel injectors, malfunctioning fuel system components (fuel pump, relay, filter), significant engine vacuum leaks, EGR valve stuck open, or clogged EGR ports. A damaged crankshaft position sensor (CKP), CKP wiring issues, poor fuel quality, running out of fuel, ignition system failure, or mechanical engine problems could also contribute. Additionally, a faulty Powertrain Control Module (PCM) may be involved. For detailed reference, see BBBind.com for wiring schematics and further diagnostics.
