2005 Ford E350 5.4L V8 - P2270 Code with No Downstream O2 Sensor Found

Model: 2005 Ford E350 Fault Code: P2270 Posted: 2015-12-19 16:57

I own a 2005 Ford E350 Super Duty box truck equipped with a 5.4L V8 engine. The vehicle is currently displaying a P2270 diagnostic trouble code, which indicates an issue with the post-catalyst heated oxygen sensor (downstream O2 sensor). However, upon inspection, I do not have a downstream O2 sensor installed — only the upstream O2 sensor located just after the manifold on the #1 cylinder side. The truck was previously used as a rental vehicle, and I'm unsure if this usage history affects the current issue. Given that no exhaust piping appears to connect to a downstream sensor, I'm wondering whether there could be an underlying wiring, ECU misconfiguration, or emissions compliance issue causing the P2270 code despite the absence of a physical sensor. Any insights from owners with similar setups would be greatly appreciated.

Have you had this truck for a long time? The appearance of the P2270 code now might suggest a latent issue that only surfaced recently. Check the emissions label on the radiator support — it could indicate specific emissions standards or import/export regulations, such as CVWR (Commercial Vehicle Weight Rating) specifications, which may affect sensor requirements or wiring configurations.
