2005 Dodge Durango multiple codes set for tranny P0700, P0845, P0731, P0732, P0733

Model: 2005 Dodge Durango Fault Code: P0700 Posted: 2016-08-02 22:50

I have a 2005 Dodge Durango SXT 4.7L with the 5-45RFE transmission. It has roughly 138,000 miles on it. I recently replaced the transmission shift solenoid pack after the truck went into "limp mode". After replacing the solenoid pack I was able to clear the original trouble codes for the solenoid pack but have not been able to get the truck to get out of "limp mode" since. The last time I had codes read they were as follows : P0700 P0845 P0731 P0732 P0733 P0700 P0731 P0732 & P0733 Now I dont know what else to do to try fixing this issue without having to spoend a small fortune (more than the truck is probably worth) to have the tranny rebuilt(was given a quote of $2400 to rebuild or $650 to remove and install used tranny I provide). PLEASE help me I am at my wits end with this truck and close to just giving up and throwing the truck away

what is history - why did you change the solenoid pack? Any codes? why was truck in limp mode... did any of the below codes show BEFORE you R&R solenoid pack? P0731-GEAR RATIO ERROR IN 1ST . . . P0732-GEAR RATIO ERROR IN 2ND. . . P0733-GEAR RATIO ERROR IN 3RD. . . P0845-2C HYDRAULIC PRESSURE TEST FAILURE

originally the truck went in to limp mode and threw the trouble code for the l/r solenoid so I replaced the solenoid pack with a brand new one. After I replaced the solenoid the codes were cleared for the l/r solenoid but the gear ratio codes are showing now. I have had the tranny put into learn mode after each tear down and re assembly but to no avail. I am at my wits end with this issue. Now when I start the truck I can put it in 1st manually than shift it to 2nd manually and it shifts fine but when I try to shift it to drive the rpms will go down but the tranny doesnt engage in any gear. If I start in 2 gear the truck will shift from 1st to second on its own just fine try to shift into drive and same thing rpms go down but not engaging. If I start it in drive the truck will shift from 1st to 2nd fine with the exception that the gear ratio seems to be significantly lower than when i manually shift it and again drive does not engage but from the drive position the rpms will increase not engage and throw the engine light on my dash board

the multiple gear ratio codes were not set until after i replaced the solenoid pack

Originally - and I am guessing there were codes p0700 and p0750 -? yes or no? You do have a scanner capable of ALL codes? wondering about p176x series codes I am hoping this is just a circuit issue.. PS: please confirm NO remote starter... correct?

I had a guy at a tyranny shop who has been nice end to scan and learn the tranny for me for free. I do not have a remote starter either. The only code thrown before the solenoid replacement was the generic 700 & 750 or 751 whichever is the l/r solenoid until it was replaced than the additional codes were set for the gear ratio and hydraulic pressure thingy mijigy

I am thinking you have a wiring issue. You did check the circuit for the p0750 code BEFORE replacing solenoid pack? You do have a scanner capable of ALL codes? Again I am thinking a P176x code might be there. P0750 (4.7L V8 VIN N Auto) A/T Low/Reverse Solenoid CIRCUIT Failure

I've never seen that type of code and I did not test the wiring before replacing the solenoid. I am not sure how I would go about doing so either. I am not mechanical advanced bit I do know my way around the car so maybe it is something I can be walked thru or instructed on how to do. Before the original issue happened and the truck went to limp mode THERE were NO ISSUES or problems noticeable in shifting or the transmission period. One minute it was perfectly fine no issues the next thing I was driving on the fwy doing roughly 80 and all of a sudden the truck herded exceptionally rough and limp mode was initiated. The next time I started it there was no issues until I had drove it for a while and than back to limp mode it went. THE TRUCK did that back next forth like that for a few days and finally stayed in limp mode leading me to have the codes read and was given the l/r solenoid which lead me to discovering I had to replace the entire solenoid cuz my truck doesn't have individual solenoids but has a single unit comprising of all solenoids

I am guessing you do NOT have a scanner? there were no issues with input and output sensors or trans pressure befor your work has me thinking we need to recheck the R&R. chec fuses and trans relay in PDC (underhood)...fuse #19 I think... how are you with wiring diagrams and test light? http://www.revbase.com/BBBMotor/Wd/Down ... ?id=112379

I dont have a scanner at my disposal. I have the ability to have someone read the codes for me though. To my knowledge I had no issues with any of the sensors or the trans pressure prior to the original l/r solenoid issue. As for my ability with a test light and wire diagrams lets put it this way I am a single mother of 4 children who has a very limited income with little to no help from anyone at this point. So I have learned to do most things a man would do myself. I have helped swap out the trans in my sons firebird as well as done a complete head gasket job on more than one vehicle over the years and swapped out my engine in my grand prix (a million years ago). So I am comfortable working in and around the engine and etc. I am pretty sure I could figure it out with a little guidance and instruction as to WHAT I should be looking for and other possible fixes that a shop and the dealer would not tell me out of the hopes of charging me out the you know what to do it. I LOVE my truck beyond belief and am willing to try just about anything to get her running right again EXCEPT pay for a new trans or even to rebuild one. I paid $2700 for the truck almost a year ago so to put another $2400 into the truck would not be logical. PLEASE help save my truck. I know there is something very simple wrong and I am almost positve that it can be fixed very easily and probably inexpensive too.

I am almost certain I did the solenoid correctly and there are no issues with that. I could be wrong but its pretty simple to remove and replace really. A couple hex bolts off the valve body remove the bad solenoid replace the new one tighten the hex bolts with roughly 40 ft lbs torque place back up to connector and attached. I replaced both filters at the same time as well.I did NOT replace the gasket though I used gasket maker and have checked for leaks and have not one drop leaking

lets give this a try - We will start with the current issues, you have codes- P0731-GEAR RATIO ERROR IN 1ST . . . P0732-GEAR RATIO ERROR IN 2ND. . . P0733-GEAR RATIO ERROR IN 3RD. . . P0845-2C HYDRAULIC PRESSURE TEST FAILURE is that correct and complete list? did you plug in the speed sensors -input and out put - is connector tight corrosion free? did you check the fuse underhood fuse box ? I said #19 -

Anonymous 2016-08-04 09:03

I had not done anything to any thing other than the solenoid. I have looked for the fuse but I have to look up the diagrams bcuz it's not labeled

Anonymous 2016-08-04 09:21

did you look on back of the cover you removed, also the owners manual may have a diagram.

Anonymous 2016-08-04 09:23

Cover doesn't label them all. And I'm not the original owner so I don't have the owners manual
