2005 Dodge Dakota V8 P0700 and P2706 Codes: 4WD Light Flashes, Transmission Issues, Solenoid Problems
I'm experiencing multiple issues with my 2005 Dodge Dakota SLT with the 5.7L V8 engine. After replacing the battery, several diagnostic trouble codes appeared simultaneously, including P0700 and P2706. The SVC 4WD light flashes intermittently during driving—typically after starting and within the first 3 to 4 miles—and may reappear multiple times before the end of my trip. Occasionally, the vehicle feels like it's in limp mode, with significantly reduced fuel efficiency. I've already had both transmission gearboxes serviced. I attempted a fluid and filter change at a local lube shop, but they reported that the transmission fluid was in good condition and the service was performed correctly. While some sources suggest that simply replacing the filter and changing the transmission fluid can resolve shift solenoid issues, I'm concerned about whether this is sufficient. I’m considering a full pan replacement involving the shift solenoid, valve body, filter, and fluid—though I know the valve body alone can be expensive. My question: Does anyone have experience with these specific codes (P0700 and P2706) on this model? Are there more cost-effective solutions than a complete transmission overhaul? Is my current plan truly overkill?
Based on the symptoms, I'm guessing your transmission is a 545/45 RFE. First, check the wiring harness to the transmission—specifically fuse #15 and fuse #23, as well as connector C4 (green-colored connector). Loose or damaged connections can trigger these codes.
