2005 Toyota Corolla P0171 Code: System Too Lean - Diagnosis & Solutions
Hello everyone! This is my first post on the forum, and I'm relatively new to OBDII diagnostics. My 2005 Toyota Corolla (1.8L, automatic transmission) has been showing a check engine light that comes on and off intermittently over the past week. The fault code detected is P0171 — 'System Too Lean (Bank 1)'. Below is the freeze frame data from the OBDII system: - P0171: Generic code – System too lean (Bank 1) - Fuel System 1: Closed Loop (CL) - Fuel System 2: Not Available (NA) - Calculated Load (%): 16.1 - ETC (°C): 68 - STFT B1 (%): 0.188 - LTFT B1 (%): 30.5 - Engine RPM: 827 - Vehicle Speed (km/h): 0 - Spark Advance (°): 14.5 - IAT (°C): 0 - MAF (g/s): 2.39 - TPS (%): 0.0 Does this data help narrow down the potential cause? Based on what I've read, the Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor is a possible culprit — could it be dirty or malfunctioning? Any insights or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
The MAF sensor could be involved — consider checking and cleaning it. Additionally, inspect for vacuum leaks and verify fuel pressure is within normal range.
