2005 Chrysler PT Cruiser P0551 Code: Meaning, Safety, and Repair Cost Explained

Model: 2005 Chrysler PT Cruiser Fault Code: P0551 Posted: 2014-11-20 22:25

My 2005 Chrysler PT Cruiser has been showing the check engine light for a few days, then it turns off for a while. This pattern has repeated for over a month. What does P0551 mean? Is it safe to continue driving the vehicle until repairs are made? And what should the repair cost be (not including parts)? Any insights from experienced owners or mechanics would be greatly appreciated.

I need to understand what P0551 means and where I should take my vehicle for diagnosis and repair.

This applies to a 2004 PT Cruiser with turbo, but I'm not sure if the same code behavior occurs. Does anyone have experience with this model?

kev2: I don’t have any experience with that location. The steering gear box is not something I’d know how to locate myself. Dealers often charge high prices, but thanks for the tip!

Note: Avoid getting overcharged by unqualified service providers—medical billing can be shocking, so always verify with a trusted mechanic or dealership.
