P0357 Fault Code in 2004 Town Car: Causes and Solutions After Warm-Up

Model: 2004 Town Car Fault Code: P0357 Posted: 2016-01-24 19:14

My 2004 Ford Town Car exhibits a rough idle when running in gear after warming up for 10-15 seconds, which then resolves on its own. The only diagnostic code detected is P0357. I have already replaced the spark plug and coil with known-good components, but the issue persists. Why does the problem resolve spontaneously? What are the other potential causes that should be investigated?

P0357 indicates a circuit-related issue. Common causes include loose coil connectors, missing latch mechanisms, poor electrical connections, or corrosion. The connector itself is a frequently replaced part. Next, inspect the wiring from the coil to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) for opens, pinching, or damage—especially in the first few inches near the coil. This area is often problematic. Please update with your findings.
