2004 Ford Ranger 4.0L Engine Shows P0420, P0113, P0102, P2196, P2198 Codes with Rough Idle and Stumbling on Acceleration
My 2004 Ford Ranger 4.0L engine is displaying multiple active OBD-II diagnostic codes: P0420 (Catalyst Efficiency Below Threshold), P0113 (Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor 'A' Too High), P0102 (Manifold Absolute Pressure Sensor Circuit Low Input), P2196 (Fuel Trim 2 Too Rich), and P2198 (Fuel Trim 2 Too Lean). The vehicle runs roughly and stumbles during acceleration. It reaches operating temperature, but the symptoms persist. I'm looking for guidance on diagnosing and resolving these issues without costly repairs.
Are you using a K&N oiled air filter? If so, it may be interfering with airflow readings. Consider removing or replacing it. Also, clean the Mass Airflow (MAF) sensor thoroughly and inspect all wiring connections to ensure integrity. Faulty MAF readings can skew engine management system inputs. Are there any additional diagnostic codes present? Specifically, is the Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor reading within normal operating range?
