2004 Mazda MPV P0000 Fault After Battery Replacement and Engine Power Wash

Model: 2004 Mazda MPV Fault Code: P0000 Posted: 2010-10-05 08:38

The battery in our 2004 Mazda MPV ES with a 3.0L Ford Duratec engine was showing signs of failure. We replaced the battery, and during the process, we performed an engine power wash using diluted degreaser and a pressure washer with a wide spray pattern to avoid high-pressure contact on any single area. This procedure has been successfully used on previous vehicles including a Chevrolet van, Toyota models, and my sister’s VW—no issues were observed in those cases. After completing the wash, we started the vehicle and drove it for about 5 minutes with no immediate problems. However, approximately 30 minutes later, my wife reported that the engine was running roughly and the Check Engine Light (CEL) illuminated. Upon connecting a ScanGage 2 device, we retrieved fault code P0000. Vehicle details: - 2004 Mazda MPV ES 3.0L (Ford Durate or equivalent) - 62,000 miles - Fault code P0000 triggered after battery replacement and engine power wash - Engine runs roughly, especially under acceleration I am concerned whether the power wash may have affected sensitive components, particularly given that this fault code is associated with oxygen sensor or sensor-related issues. I'm seeking advice on possible causes and solutions for this specific scenario.

It's plausible that the ignition system components were exposed to moisture during the power wash, potentially leading to electrical interference or short circuits—this could explain the P0000 code and rough running. A thorough inspection of the spark plugs, ignition wires, and sensor connections is recommended after drying and reassembly.
