Please post all diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) you've received — do not rely on the key-on-off reset trick, as it may not retrieve all stored codes. Visit a local auto parts store for free OBD2 scan services. Is this vehicle a Grand Cherokee? What engine type does it have? Have there been any recent repairs or maintenance work performed?
