2004 Hyundai Sonata P0350 Code: Causes and Connection to Recent Ignition Work

Model: 2004 Hyundai Sonata Fault Code: P0350 Posted: 2017-08-13 09:41

I own a 2004 Hyundai Sonata and recently had several engine-related repairs completed last week. The work included replacement of the valve cover gasket, spark plugs, and spark plug wires, as well as proper adjustment of the air flow intake tube. However, my son accidentally disconnected and improperly reconnected the throttle body hose during a maintenance session, which was later corrected by the auto repair shop. Additionally, I had to return the vehicle due to a loose engine belt causing noise. Now, the vehicle is displaying Diagnostic Trouble Code P0350, indicating an issue with the ignition coil primary/secondary circuit. Given that recent work involved spark plugs and ignition components, I'm wondering if this code could be directly related to those repairs. Is it accurate to assume that the ignition coil's primary and secondary circuits are closely tied to spark plug performance? Any insights or troubleshooting steps would be greatly appreciated.

Your reasoning is logical — the vehicle was running fine before ignition components were replaced, and now it's showing an ignition-related issue. Double-check all repairs: did you swap spark plug wire positions during installation? Were OEM-quality spark plugs installed instead of cheaper aftermarket parts? I recommend using original equipment manufacturer (OEM) components for better reliability and compatibility.

vehicle was running ok until yesterday. I started it up and the car was shacking and the check engine light came on with the code. I had the code checked and it was PO350, ignition coil primary/secondary. I do know from the work order copy that the spark plug wires was replaced and the spark plug holes had oil in them and that was cleaned out. The work was done by a certified auto center so I assume they put in the correct plugs. I have a 30 day warranty on the work they did and want to know if the work may have caused that problem.

Yes, spark plugs and spark plug wires are common causes of a P0350 code. It's important to ensure proper installation and compatibility with the vehicle’s system.

Thanks for the advice — I'll call the repair shop tomorrow to discuss this further and confirm whether they can address or resolve the P0350 issue under warranty.
