2004 Honda Civic 1.7L P0134 Fault: O2 Sensor Placement in Exhaust Header?

Model: 2004 Honda Civic Fault Code: P0134 Posted: 2016-01-07 16:38

Hello everyone! I own a 2004 Honda Civic Si with a 1.7L engine and am currently experiencing a P0134 diagnostic trouble code (DTC), which indicates an issue with the oxygen sensor circuit for Bank 1, Sensor 1. I've reviewed common causes of this code on this forum and have already checked all fuses—no issues detected. I also confirmed there is no exhaust leak in my system. My exhaust header has two openings for the O2 sensor, and I initially installed it in the bottom hole. The catalytic converter is positioned after the downpipe, so I sealed one of the holes to prevent backflow. I'm wondering: would relocating the oxygen sensor to the top opening on the header resolve the P0134 code? Would this change improve sensor readings and clear the fault? Any insights or recommendations from experienced users with similar setups would be greatly appreciated.

It's recommended to consult the header manufacturer's technical support, as they often provide guidance on proper O2 sensor installation and placement. Ideally, you should perform a live scan of Bank 1 Sensor 1 (B1S1) data using an OBD2 scanner. Monitor the actual sensor voltage readings—look for open circuits, fixed high or low values, or failure to shift properly—and adjust your setup accordingly.
