2004 Honda Civic Coupe P0118 Code: Intermittent Overheating Despite No Engine Light

Model: 2004 Honda Civic Coupe Fault Code: P0118 Posted: 2016-04-11 02:00

My 2004 Honda Civic Coupe is showing a P0118 fault code, and although the engine check light does not illuminate (as reported by other owners), the car frequently overheats at random intervals. For instance, one day I drove for an hour straight and it overheated unexpectedly; on another occasion, after driving 1,000 miles continuously, I had to pull over due to sudden overheating. The overheating occurs anywhere from 30 minutes to up to 12 hours of driving. Multiple repair shops have been unable to diagnose the issue and advised me to ignore it. I've already replaced the thermostat and flushed the cooling system with fresh coolant, ensuring there are no air bubbles. Based on recommendations, I'm now considering replacing the thermostat sensor as a next step.

No visible signs of overheating beyond the temperature gauge fluctuation? The issue is likely related to the thermostat sensor, its connector, or wiring.
