2004 Ford F150 5.4L Engine P0430 Code After Timing Chain Replacement

Model: 2004 F150 5.4L Fault Code: P0430 Posted: 2015-06-16 15:55

My 2004 Ford F15-0 with a 5.4L V8 engine is displaying OBD-II diagnostic code P0430, indicating 'Catalytic Converter System Below Threshold - Bank 2'. I recently replaced the timing chain (not the timing belt) and noticed this code appeared a few days later. I've already replaced the spark plugs and one oxygen sensor on each bank, cleaned the mass air flow sensor, but the P0430 code persists. Given that the issue is specific to Bank 2, I suspect the catalytic converter may be faulty. Has anyone else experienced this problem after a timing chain replacement? Any insights or troubleshooting steps would be greatly appreciated.

You mentioned 'timing belt'—could you clarify what exactly was replaced? Was it actually the timing chain, as the 5.4L engine uses a timing chain, not a belt? Also, do you have access to an OBD-II scanner to confirm the code and check live sensor data?

Apologies for the confusion—yes, I replaced the timing chain, not the belt. The OBD-II scanner confirms P0430 is present.

Check out http://www.obd-codes.com/p0430 for detailed explanations. Pay special attention to the FT (Fuel Trim) values and oxygen sensor voltage readings before and after the catalytic converter. Were there any prior issues such as misfires or overfueling before the timing chain replacement? These could contribute to a failing catalyst system.
