2004 Dodge Durango P0068 Code: TPS Voltage Issue After Replacement

Model: 2004 Durango Fault Code: P0068 Posted: 2015-07-13 10:15

I'm experiencing a persistent P0068 code on my 2004 Dodge Durango. Previously, the vehicle also showed a P0123 code, which I resolved by cleaning what appeared to be debris from the air intake system. Although my Durango does not have a traditional Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor, this issue was addressed and the P0123 code disappeared. I recently replaced the Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) about a month ago due to hard shifting and poor idle — after the replacement, these symptoms improved temporarily. However, the vehicle is now showing the P006-8 code again, and it has started having difficulty starting at times. During testing, I found that both the negative and power supply sides of the TPS are within expected ranges. The signal wire reads 4V when the throttle butterfly is closed, and increases to approximately 5V when fully open — which aligns with normal behavior according to technical references. However, I'm concerned about why the voltage starts so high at idle. Could there be a fault in the TPS wiring, ground connection, or an underlying issue despite the replacement? Any insights into what might cause this abnormal signal reading would be greatly appreciated.

What engine type do you have? Do you have a OBD2 scanner? I'm asking because some key-based systems may not display all fault codes. Is your vehicle stock with no aftermarket modifications? Please perform a full scan and share all current diagnostic trouble codes for accurate diagnosis.
