2004 Dodge Ram 1500 5.7L Engine: P0700, P0760, P0406, and P1684 Diagnostic & Transmission Shift Issues

Model: 2004 Dodge Ram 1500 Fault Code: P0406 Posted: 2018-06-03 11:52

I recently purchased a 2004 Dodge Ram 1500 with only 79,248 miles on the odometer according to Carfax. After driving it approximately 100 miles home, I noticed that the vehicle felt sluggish during initial acceleration. The check engine light then activated. At O'Reilly's auto shop, they diagnosed multiple trouble codes: P0700 (Transmission Control System Malfunction), P0760 (Shift Solenoid A Circuit Failure), P0406 (Fuel Pump Control Circuit Issue), and P1684 (Transmission Range Sensor Circuit Malfunction). The transmission fluid was checked and found to be at proper level and in good condition, clean with no signs of contamination. Currently, when towing a trailer and using Tow/Haul mode, the vehicle does not automatically shift into 1st or 2nd gear—manual shifting works fine, but acceleration remains unresponsive. This behavior suggests a potential issue with the transmission shift solenoid block. However, given the presence of multiple codes, I'm seeking expert opinions on whether this is a solenoid failure, sensor fault, or another underlying system problem. As a new owner and beginner in diagnosing transmission issues, I'd appreciate any insights from experienced users or mechanics.
