Hi everyone, I just tried to start my 2003 VW Passat 1.8T yesterday, but the engine shut off immediately. The check engine light was on, so I used an OBD-II scanner and retrieved code P0299 — indicating turbocharger undershoot. I'm not sure what's causing this issue, especially since I recently had maintenance performed on my vehicle. The problem occurred after a repair for an engine leak: the top engine gasket was found to be damaged and replaced, along with a new water pump and associated belts. Given that the car has just undergone these repairs, I'm wondering if the P0299 code could be related to improper reassembly or component compatibility. I'm also concerned whether the loss of power is due to a weak battery — but I suspect it might be more related to turbo performance issues.
