2003 Chrysler PT Cruiser OBD Code P0141: Heater Circuit Issue with Bank 1 Sensor 2 Oxygen Sensor

Model: 2003 PT Cruiser Fault Code: P0141 Posted: 2017-04-29 10:36

Hello, I'm working on a 2003 Chrysler PT Cruiser and have received an OBD II diagnostic code P0141, which indicates a heater circuit fault for the Bank 1 Sensor 2 oxygen sensor. I've already replaced both oxygen sensors. During my I/M test, the scanner showed a question mark next to the MAP sensor, and the upstream oxygen sensor readings were fluctuating significantly—ranging from nearly 0V to over 1V. Given this behavior, I suspect the issue isn't with the downstream sensor but rather with the MAP sensor or its circuit. The erratic upstream voltage may be disrupting the feedback loop, causing the downstream sensor to register a fault even though it's functioning properly. Could the fluctuating upstream readings be due to an improper heater circuit or faulty wiring? Is there any known connection between MAP sensor instability and oxygen sensor performance in this model? Thank you for your insights.

P0141: If the internal heater of the oxygen sensor is functioning correctly, inspect the heater circuit for proper voltage, open circuits, or shorted wires. Measure the ohms value of the heater element on both the old and new sensors to ensure consistency. Refer to BBBind.com for detailed electrical schematics. Voltage fluctuations in the upstream oxygen sensor (within 0.9V to 0.1V range) are normal under varying engine conditions. Regarding the MAP sensor showing a question mark on the scanner—this could indicate a wiring issue or signal loss. Are there any specific error codes related to the MAP sensor? If not, it may be a data acquisition issue rather than a hardware fault.
