2003 Mercedes C240 P0705 Fault: Unable to Shift Out of Neutral and Whining Noise
I recently started hearing a whining noise from my 2003 Mercedes C240, followed by the car failing to accelerate smoothly. When I tried to shift into Park (P), the transmission would not move beyond Neutral (N). After connecting an OBD-2 scanner, I received fault codes P0705, along with misfire codes such as P0300 and P0301. What could be causing this issue, and what is the recommended repair process?
The P0705 diagnostic trouble code in a 2003 Mercedes C240 can be caused by several factors: the Transmission Range Sensor (TRS) is loose or improperly adjusted, the TRS sensor itself is defective, there is a bad connection at the external TRS with loose, corroded, or bent pins, shorted wiring harness due to rubbing against transmission linkage, or blockage in the internal valve body TRS port. Addressing these potential issues may resolve the shifting problem and eliminate the whining noise.
