2003 Mazda MPV P0327 Code Explanation: Ignition Issues, Sensor Location, and Safety Advice

Model: 2003 Mazda MPV Fault Code: P0327 Posted: 2016-02-07 15:23

Hello, I'm John Fiegenbaum and I own a 2003 Mazda MPV LX with a 6-cylinder 3.0L engine. Recently, my check engine light came on, followed by the O/D OFF light flashing. This has caused noticeable jerking during acceleration and deceleration—especially when shifting gears—but there is no grinding noise. I took the vehicle to NAPA, where they diagnosed a code P0327 using their diagnostic tool. The code is described as generic, pointing to an ignition-related issue, possibly involving the knock sensor or PCM/ECM sensor. My main questions are: How can an ignition system problem affect transmission behavior? Can a do-it-yourselfer safely replace both sensors? Where are these sensors located in a 2003 Mazda MPV? And most importantly—should I avoid driving the car entirely until it's inspected by a professional? Thank you in advance for any technical insights or guidance on this issue.

Check the forum's trouble code section for detailed causes and solutions. If the check engine light is not flashing due to misfires, driving may be safe although gear shifts might feel unusual. Code P0327 typically indicates a fault in wiring or sensor operation.
