2003 Hyundai Accent Code P0441: Diagnosis and Electrical Issues with Purge Valve Circuit
I've replaced the purge valve, PCV system, gas cap, and charcoal canister, but the check engine light is still on with code P0441. When the key is off, a tester shows one wire is grounded, while when the key is turned on, the same wire reads as having power. The other wire shows a very dim voltage under both conditions—positive and negative. This inconsistent behavior suggests an electrical fault in the purge valve circuit or its wiring. I suspect the issue lies with the purge solenoid's wiring or internal components, especially since one wire should have 12V when the key is on (KOEO), while the other should show no voltage or be open. I've tested the solenoid resistance and found it to be 26 Ω at 68°F, which falls within expected range. However, vacuum tests indicate that the purge valve may be stuck open, possibly due to carbon buildup preventing proper sealing.
Unplug the purge solenoid and test under KOEO (Key Off Engine On) conditions. One wire should show 12V when the key is on, while the other should read no voltage or be open—never grounded. Also check for vacuum loss when the valve is disconnected; if there's no vacuum flow, it indicates a mechanical failure.
