I may be incorrect, but on my Honda Accord hybrid, these codes relate to the IMA (Integrated Motor Assist) system. - P1601: IMA System Malfunction - P1435: Charge/Discharge Balance Malfunction Does your 2003 Honda Civic have a hybrid powertrain? If so, this could be relevant.

For accurate diagnosis and repair of these issues, access to the Motor Control Module (MCM) for the IMA system is required. Only certified Honda hybrid technicians should perform repairs due to the risk of personal injury or death from high-voltage components.
