2003 Ford Escape P0705: Engine Stalls When Shifting from Park to Drive or Reverse
My 2003 Ford Escape stalls when shifting from Park to Drive or Reverse, but only after the engine has warmed up. It does not stall when cold and running at high idle. I recently replaced the Idle Air Control (IAC) valve, yet the issue persists. My mechanic has identified a P0705 diagnostic code: Transmission Range Sensor Circuit Fault. The problem seems to occur intermittently and only under specific driving conditions. I'm seeking advice on how to properly troubleshoot this transmission range sensor fault, especially given that the vehicle is equipped with a 3.0L engine.
To address P0705, consider checking common failure points: damaged or shorted transmission range (TR) sensor connector; open or grounded signal circuit in the TR sensor; short to VREF (5V); or a faulty TR sensor itself. The TR sensor is relatively inexpensive and replacing it may be worth considering if diagnostics show no other issues.
