2003 Dodge Neon P0440 Fault Code: Causes and Solutions
I recently received a P0440 diagnostic code on my 2003 Dodge Neon. I initially replaced the gas cap, which cleared the code temporarily. However, after restarting the vehicle, the P0440 code has reappeared. The issue appears to be related to the evaporative emission (EVAP) system. Possible causes include a faulty purge solenoid, a restricted EVAP canister, or damaged evap lines and hoses. If these components are functioning correctly, a professional smoke test at a Chrysler dealership may be necessary to identify any hidden leaks in the EVAP system.
Check for a faulty purge solenoid and a restricted EVAP canister. Also inspect the evap lines and hoses for cracks or holes. If all checks out, consider taking the vehicle to a Chrysler dealership for an EVAP system smoke test.
